# 2.17 Testing distribution functions

A sanity check on distributions can be done with the test distribution function from the menu bar of SEAMCAT. The result of generating random values using a particular distribution type can be tested by selecting the <Test Distributions> command from the Workspace menu, by clicking on the icon of the toolbar ([![image.png](https://wiki.cept.org/uploads/images/gallery/2026-04/scaled-1680-/1C5vv4sWeLoBocWq-image.png)](https://wiki.cept.org/uploads/images/gallery/2026-04/1C5vv4sWeLoBocWq-image.png)) or by pressing <CTRL+SHIFT+D>. This could be e.g. used to analyse the statistical qualities of generated random variables.
